Lingyun (A), Fengshan (B) – Environmental restoration, training on sustainable agriculture, promotion of mutual help and self-organising in 8 natural villages through soil improvement, reforestation, trainings, farmer-field school, community organizing and some small scale infrastructure such as village roads and irrigation system. 4 natural villages in Fengshan county successfully grown vegetables for self consumption. 20,000 tree saplings of dates, Chinese red pine and fruit are delivered in Lingyun county. For community organizing and consciousness-raising on environmental protection, a folk song event was successfully launched in Lingyun in December 2007. Villagers from Fengshan, and even Nandan, and Jinxiu counties had come to share and enjoy.
Heng (C) –Consolidated the understanding and practices of sustainable agriculture such as replacing chemical fertilizer by duck-paddy farming, green manure & composting. Project will continue focus on capacity building of the local organic farmers association and exploration of local market. Positive linkage between rural village and urban area is encouraged through pilot Community-Supported Agriculture initiatives. .
Nandan (E) – Facilitated cultural reflection and the understanding on sustainable living through cultural and community activities recapturing together with villagers, trials on sustainable agriculture and activities on community organizing. Villagers expressed keen interest to join the experiment on sustainable agriculture, and they were looking for a small irrigation system so that they could grow more rice in summer, more vegetables and green manure in winter. It was planned that some women groups will be developed. These groups will investigate some aspects of their own culture that they felt important but facing its decline.
Jinxiu (D) –Traditional Social Organisation in Sustainable
Livelihoods: revived the traditional Stone Tablet System in the community and expanded its function from self-protection to the management of community conflict, livelihood projects, and revival of some cultural activities. In the livelihood enhancement parts, villagers are introduced eco-friendly animal raising practices. The villagers have very positive feedback and interested to develop a better recycle of energy and farming resources. |
