Wangmo (A) – Strengthened community participation and natural resource management through integrated livelihood and health projects. Established village development revolving funds on livelihoods. Water tanks are constructed to collect rainwater. A village clinic and a village activity venue are built. Water systems are constructed in second phase villages namely Pingxiang, Zhushan and Naba. A one-year extended phase is approved after the evaluation. A new component in organic vegetable growing is added.

Baiyi of Guiyang (C), Meitan (D), Liping (E), Bijie (G) – Promoted eco-agriculture concepts and practices on ecological farming including paddy field, vegetables, fruits and herbal medicines. Participatory technology development is developed in various sites. Organised eco-experiments and farmers training at village level. Farmers gained good practical know-how and explored community platform for recycling of resources, local production, consumption and local markets. Facilitated exchange and documentation of the project experience.

The project-end evaluation conducted in December 2007 concluded that the projects had been successful in strengthening villagers' motivation and technical skills in conversing to organic farming. Techniques adopted by farmers included mulching, biological pest control, eco-chicken raising, inter-cropping and rice-duck growing. Chemical fertilizer and pesticide have been replaced. Farmers’ Eco-farming Interest Groups have been formed as the learning and self organizing platform. In Liping, the organic rice production has become the first certified organic rice in Guizhou. All the

projects, in particular Baiyi and Liping, received strong support from local government. Proposals for a new phase of another 2 years are approved in March 2008.

Kaili (F), Leishan, Taijiang (B) – Facilitated cultural reflection among Miao ethnic minority groups, revival of indigenous culture - including ecological and lusheng (a musical instrument) culture. Facilitated community actions on culture inheritance and identify grassroots facilitators. In Leishan and Taijiang, small scale community actions are implemented to promote villagers awareness on protecting their ecology. In Kali, in the Xinguang Village where the lusheng revival project is implemented, about 100 households have been growing the lusheng bamboo for the making of the instrument. The bamboo is now mature for the manufacturing. The villagers established a Lusheng Association to coordinate all the activities. Training class on the manufacturing and the playing of the instrument were conducted by the old masters for the new generation. Villagers feel that their relationship with each others is much closer and, happier than before.
